Your Vote Counts - Leisure facilities for our children?

swingIn the summer of 2009, the Parish Council conducted a consultation with the children of the schools and asked the parents to fill out a questionnaire, for which we had a very low response. Based on the information we received, the Parish Council considered a number of schemes which would refurbish both the recreation ground and develop the Harroell play area, which we lease from AVDC. We approached AVDC to seek their permission to develop Harroell which they have granted in principle, however they have made it clear that they are not (at this time) prepared to extend the remaining 20 year lease as they are coming under increasing pressure with regards housing.

The Parish Council are mindful of the fact that only a limited number of people have actually seen the proposed scheme. We are working closely with the residents surrounding the Harroell site to agree on a mutually acceptable play scheme, we do not want to do this in isolation from the rest of the village and worse case scenario, agree a reduced scheme which the rest of the village does not agree with.

football pitchIt is the Parish Council's belief that if we can provide a successful playground in this area which is popular with the children, it will be harder for AVDC to take this amenity away from the village. The current Government strategy is "Every Child Matters" and "Change 4 Life", supporting the belief that children should have adequate play facilities. The Parish Council do not have any other land we can use for play.

The costs of these proposed play schemes are large and we will need to apply for a huge number of grants to make any scheme a reality. However to stand a better chance of getting any funding, we need to prove that we have widely consulted with the village and proven there is a need, with a unified vision.

new play areaWith this in mind we need a representative sample of the village and therefore would ask that all residents (with or without children) to complete a questionnaire and tell us whether you agree or disagree with the proposed plans/ideas. If you have any additional comments - either negative or positive, please add them in with the questionnaire and/or email your thoughts to caroline.bevan@long-crendon.com

The final date for the questionnaires is the 15th May 2010.
